- The Detrum 6-axis flight control has similar charcteristics to the stabilizer in the Apprentice S. Review by Hans van der Ven
All three modes include normal gyro stabilization of the three axis similar to the Apprentice S
The Beginner mode is very similar to the Apprentice S Beginner mode in that it holds level flight if the gimbals (sticks) are released, and allows limited tilt and pitch if the gimbals are moved. However the Detrum unit alows greater tilt and pitch angles compared to the Apprentice S.
The Advanced mode is very similar to the Apprentice S Intermediate mode, and like the Apprentice S allows greater tilt and pitch angles than biginner mode. However the Detrum unit alows greater tilt and pitch angles compared to the Apprentice S.
The Aerobatic mode is very similar to the Apprentice S Advanced mode in that it no longer has the level flight hold or the limited tilt and pitch angles. But it does keep the normal gyro stabilization to help against externel effects such as wind gusts
However the stabilization gain for the three axis have to be set for the Detrum unit which is difficult for a beginner to do. Whereas the stabilizer gains for the Apprentice S are preset in the factory.
The big advantage of the Detrum unit is that it can be added to the existing plane receivers, which is very important if you prefer to use none Spektrum radios, such as the FrSky Taranis radio. (Posted on 7/12/2015)
