1st real FPV drone - big learning curve but big fun 1 people found this helpful

I want to get it right out of the way that if you're a beginner looking to take the next step in this hobby, you will absolutely enjoy this drone. It's fast, agile, and fun. On a 550mah 3s battery I'm getting about 8 minutes of flight time (exploration type flight, not freestyle). Camera quality is adequate, VTX range and penetration is good (mine was set to 200mw out of the box, but check yours to be sure), and the ELRS receiver is great... once you get it working. More on that below. Only real con to the drone itself, and why it's not getting 5 stars, is that every single screw was loose when I bought it. Make sure you go through and tighten everything. I'll be putting locktite on to be sure... just as soon as I get replacement screws. I'm grounded at the moment due to all the screws on one of my motors vibrating out somewhere in my back yard. Now, on to the learning curves: 1st learning curve is the flying. Be sure to put plenty of time into a sim. I'm using Liftoff on Steam. I put in over 40 hours of practice before flying. It's far better to experience your first few hundred crashes virtually than with your new drone. 2nd learning curve is getting the damn thing set up. Holy cow... I felt completely inept and I'm an extremely computer savvy person. There's a lot of information out there, but it's so spread out and disjointed that it took me 3 full days of massive frustration to even figure out what I didn't know in order to figure out how to proceed. For someone who is already into FPV, this will be a simple process. It binds up just like any other drone. But for a beginner... betaflight? Overwhelming and confusing. ExpressLRS configurator? Feels like you're constantly on the edge of bricking your hardware. EdgeTX? Don't even get me started. Now that I've been through the entire process, it seems like a fairly easy thing to do next time. But the learning process was brutally painful to say the least. That said, if you are a beginner trying to transition, don't let any of that discourage you. There ARE resources out there. Youtube tutorials, reddit, discord servers, etc. It's just a matter of finding every piece to the puzzle. Plan on spending time to do this, because you won't have it up and flying day one. If you go in with that expectation, you might save yourself some frustration. Long story short, buy this! You won't regret it once you get it in the air.
